The Green Bay Gamblers and the Jr. Gamblers Youth Hockey Association are proud to announce that the midget hockey tournament at the end of January in Green Bay has been named the Jim Edwards III Memorial Classic.  Edwards and his two sons, Jim IV and Joshua, were tragically killed in a plane crash on November 22, 2008.

Edwards was the President of the Jr. Gamblers Youth Hockey Association.  His son Jim IV was a sophomore at Marshfield Columbus Catholic High School and played hockey for Mosinee Co-Op  and Joshua was a member of the Jr. Gamblers Squirt team.  His wife Janelle and sons Justin and Jonathan survive Edwards.

The 8-team tournament will feature the following teams, Green Bay Jr. Gamblers, Indiana Jr. Ice, Marquette Electricians, Mission Arizona Ice, Ojibwa Eagles, Sault Ste. Marie, Shattuck St. Mary’s and Southern California Titans.  Teams will be split into two divisions of four.

The two divisions are named after U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame member and former Green Bay Bobcat Paul Coppo and U.P. Hall of Fame member, former Bobcat and current Gamblers assistant coach Carl Lackey.  Both Coppo and Lackey have played a prominent role in the expansion and popularity of hockey in Green Bay and its surrounding communities.

If you are interested in volunteering for the tournament contact the Gamblers front office at 920-405-1237.
