PeeWee Majors win in Indy

The PeeWee Majors came home with a first place finish in the Indiana Jr. Ice Challenge Cup over the March 9th weekend.  Six teams from the Midwest Region competed in the 3-day challenge.

In pool play, the Jr. Gamblers defeated the Mid-Am Prospects 4-1and the Affton Americans 6-3.  Pool play against the Jr. Ice saw a wild game that finished in a 9-9 tie with the Ice scoring twice in the final 15 seconds of the game.  The final tally came on a shot from center ice that just about hit the ceiling, bounced 3 feet in front of the goalie, kicked sideways and went into the net.

The Jr. Gamblers earned the number 1 seed in pool play and opened the bracketed portion of the tournament against the Columbus Capitals. Ryan Raff posted a shutout as the Jr. Gamblers won 4-0 earning a rematch against Affton in the finals.  The game was back and forth, and Affton scored with 8 seconds remaining on the man advantage sending the game into overtime.  The game remained tied following the 5-minute overtime, and a 3-player shootout would be the deciding factor.  Each team scored twice during the shootout forcing extra shooters.  Brett Oberle scored in the 5th round giving the Jr. Gamblers the win.

Saturday night the Jr. Ice hosted a skills challenge that saw Spencer Kring and Corbin Skinner take home 2nd and 3rd place trophies for the hardest shot, Mikey Thoresen finish 2nd in accuracy shooting, and Max Gutjahr winning the goalie challenge.
